This 9.088 KG (20lb+) meteorite (chondrite) is waiting to be the centerpiece of your collection! 

 

The first thing you notice about this meteorite (other than its gigantic size) is the stunning array of regmaglypts covering several surfaces. These thumbprints range in size and depth, with some even appearing elongated to hint at the orientation of the meteorite as it fell to Earth. 

 

The coloring is a dark desert varnish, with some weathering cracks providing a glimpse into the meteorite's interior. Patches of remnant fusion crust are visible on the side of the stone not exposed to desert winds. Nearby, you'll find fragments of metal poking through the highly textured parts of the stone. Chondrules are visible in several locations, including a large 1cm darkened chondrule sitting proud of the stone. 

 

This stone has a little bit of everything, with each feature telling a story of its time in space, to its fiery descent to Earth, and finally, its impact in the Saharan Desert.

Unique Features of This Meteorite

--Ordinary Chondrite--

Ordinary chondrites make up about 85% of all known falls. They are stony meteorites composed primarily of silicate minerals like olivine and pyroxene, with small amounts of nickel-iron metal and chondrules—tiny, spherical grains that formed in the early solar system. Their composition provides valuable insights into the building blocks of planets and the history of our solar system.

 

--Regmaglypts--

Thumbprint-like indentations found on the surface of some meteorites. They form when the meteorite travels through Earth’s atmosphere, and melting and erosion caused by intense heat and pressure shape these grooves.

 

--Desert Varnish--

Desert varnish is a thin, dark coating that forms on the surface of meteorites and rocks exposed to arid environments for long periods. 

 

--Chondrules--

Small, spherical particles found in some meteorites, particularly in chondrites. These are believed to be some of the oldest solid materials in our solar system.
