Midnight Meteorites
This 20.54 gram meteorite is a fragment of the moon! It is classified as Bechar 003 by the International Society for Meteoritics and Planetary Sciences.
Bechar 003 is a feldspathic breccia, a type of stone from the lunar highlands, the oldest and most heavily cratered regions of the Moon. The lunar highlands make up about 80% of the Moon’s surface and are particularly dominant on the far side. This material is similar to the stones brought back by the Apollo 16 astronauts.
This stone displays a unique texture and an ashen silver and charcoal gray coloring reminiscent of the lunar surface from which it came. This stone likely arrived on Earth as a result of an impact event that launched it into space. It eventually landed in the desert of Algeria before being discovered in 2022.

--Feldspathic Breccia--
A type of lunar rock made mostly of crushed and cemented fragments of the Moon’s original crust, which is rich in the mineral plagioclase feldspar. These breccias formed in the lunar highlands through repeated meteoroid impacts that shattered and fused pieces of ancient anorthositic rock. They offer a direct glimpse into the Moon’s earliest history and the violent processes that shaped its surface.
--Fusion Crust--
A thin, dark, glassy layer on the exterior of a meteorite formed during its fiery passage through Earth's atmosphere. This feature is often described as a "burned" appearance.
--Lunar Meteorites--
Pieces of the Moon, right here on Earth! These meteorites were ejected from the lunar surface by asteroid impacts. They're incredibly rare and offer both scientists and collectors a chance to hold a piece of our celestial companion without the need for a space mission.
