Oued El Hamim 001 is a lunar fragmental breccia, and is uniquely known for containing olivine that displays features consistent with aqueous alteration. When we talk about the presence of water on the moon, this is one of those stones that provides a link to that history. As one of only 53 classified lunar fragmental breccia recoveries, this is one of the more unique pieces of the moon that you can hold in your private collection. Pieces of the Moon, right here on Earth! This stone was likely ejected from the lunar surface by an asteroid impact.

This 89.83 gram full slice has a large amount of surface area for its weight. It's polished on one side, and unpolished on other, so you get two perspectives on the same material. I've included some macro photographs, which really show just how complex this meteorite is.

Unique Features of This Meteorite

--Anorthosite--

A bright, reflective rock that makes up much of the Moon’s highlands and gives the Moon its light appearance when viewed from Earth. Composed mostly of plagioclase feldspar, it formed early in the Moon’s history as the lunar magma ocean cooled and lighter minerals floated to the surface.

--Lunar Meteorites--

Pieces of the Moon, right here on Earth! These meteorites were ejected from the lunar surface by asteroid impacts. They're incredibly rare and offer both scientists and collectors a chance to hold a piece of our celestial companion without the need for a space mission.
