This 17.07 gram meteorite is formed during the earliest stages of the solar system, over 4.5 billion years ago! It is classified as NWA 16003 by the International Society for Meteoritics and Planetary Sciences. It has an attractive oval shape with a light-colored exterior that immediately stands out from many darker meteorites

Northwest Africa (NWA) 16003 is classified as a CK3 carbonaceous chondrite, one of the most primitive and scientifically valuable types of meteorites. The “3” classification indicates a relatively low degree of thermal alteration compared to more metamorphosed CK meteorites, preserving important clues about the conditions present in the protoplanetary disk from which the planets formed. These ancient stones provide researchers with insight into the building blocks of rocky worlds and the processes that shaped our Solar System. This stone was discovered in the deserts of Northwest Africa in 2023, and of this posting, it is one of only 103 classified CK3 meteorite recoveries.
