NWA 18082 is my own classification and was featured in a video series about the classification process. You can actually watch as I step through the process of sending a type sample to a lab, reviewing the electron microscope analysis, and submitting the findings for publication in the Meteoritical Bulletin.

This 62.41 gram end cut has an exposed face polished to a reflective shine. This pallasite catches the light beautifully and has an almost blue coloring to its reflected light that I've never seen in another meteorite. The exterior face has areas of remnant fusion crust from the meteor's fiery descent through our atmosphere.

This listing is a rare opportunity to own a rare and visually interesting pallasite at an affordable price. Very little of this material was recovered and will be available for sale.

Northwest Africa 18082 is a pallasite discovered in Mali in 2024, offering a glimpse into one of the rarest types of meteorites. Pallasites are thought to have formed near the boundary between the metal core and rocky mantle of a differentiated asteroid, where brilliant olivine crystals became embedded within molten iron-nickel metal. Weathering has transformed much of the original metal in NWA 18082 into iron oxides. Because pallasites make up less than 1% of all known meteorites (only 99 have been classified), they are prized as natural cross-sections through ancient planetary interiors.

Unique Features of This Meteorite

--Pallasites--

Pallasites are a breathtaking type of stony-iron meteorite. They're famous for their olivine crystals suspended in an iron-nickel matrix, creating a stained-glass window effect when sliced thin. These cosmic gems are visually stunning and provide valuable insights into planetary core-mantle boundaries.

--Fusion Crust--

A thin, dark, glassy layer on the exterior of a meteorite formed during its fiery passage through Earth's atmosphere. This feature is often described as a "burned" appearance.

--Stony-Iron Meteorite--

Stony-iron meteorites are a rare and visually striking type of meteorite composed of roughly equal parts silicate minerals and metallic iron-nickel. They offer a unique glimpse into the boundary between the metal core and rocky mantle of ancient planetary bodies. The two main types—pallasites and mesosiderites—are prized by collectors and scientists for their beauty and scientific value.
